Easter Egg-citement Across Lewis County

Posted

Easter weekend features plenty of egg-related activities for the youngest residents of Lewis County, and at least one for those who long ago outgrew their belief in the Easter Bunny.

Scatter Creek Winery in Tenino is hosting its annual 21-and-over celebration of the holiday from 1-7 p.m. on April 20-21. A small number of Easter eggs will be hidden around the facility at 237 Sussex Ave. W, including an even smaller number of golden eggs that contain prizes above and beyond the standard chocolates and coupons.

“People’s eyes light up every year, because they get to go find eggs like they used to,” said Andrea Keary, co-owner of Scatter Creek.

The bar will also be doling out random “bunny shots” both afternoons. Hollow chocolate bunnies are a standard addition to any Easter basket; this is simply the adult version of that tradition.

“We buy some of the smaller chocolate bunnies and hand them out,” Keary said. “People get to unwrap it, bite the ears off, and then we’ll fill it with a wine or beer of their choice. It’s maybe a 3-ounce taste, but then you get to eat the chocolate afterwards, which makes it pretty fun.”

Bunny shots aside, the Easter calendar most often centers around children, and Lewis County is no egg-ception. Here are some of the more popular options available for those looking for a fun way to celebrate the occasion.

• The Easter Candy Drop — 11 a.m. on April 20 at Washington Elementary in Centralia. The Easter Bunny will be dropping candy from a helicopter into a field for the kids below. This may be a spectacle worth watching, regardless of if you have a child in the scrum.

• Steam Train Eggspress rides — April 20 at the Chehalis Train Depot. A half-hour train ride will provide ample time for the Easter Bunny to hide eggs in the field adjacent to the depot. Additional activities will be available for children based on their ages, up to 12 years old. Tickets are available for a ride on the Chehalis Steam Train at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

• Mossyrock Easter Egg Hunt — 9:45 a.m. on April 20 at Mossyrock Elementary School. Lewis County Fire Districts 3 and 8 team up to put on this event for children ages 1 to 12. Each egg contains candy, cash, a gift certificate and a ticket for a flower pot from DeGoede’s Bulb Farm. Turn in a golden egg at the prize booth for a special reward. The Easter Bunny will be available for photos.

• Lake Mayfield Resort & Marina Easter Egg Hunt — 10 a.m. on April 20 at the resort in Mossyrock. Lake Mayfield doesn’t skimp on the celebration: 5,000 eggs will be hidden on the grounds for a hunt open to people of all ages. Face painting and photos with the Easter Bunny will be available, as well as a hot dog lunch following the hunt.

• Formal Family Dinner — 4:30 p.m. on April 19 at the Olequa-Winlock Senior Center in Winlock. A dinner of ham, scalloped potatoes, peas, salad, bread and dessert will be served beginning 30 minutes after the doors open. Tickets are available at the senior center for $10 per adult and $5 per child under 12 years old.

• Easter Egg Hunt and Barbeque — noon on April 20 at Cooks Hill Manor in Centralia. Hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes will be served as children up to 12 years in age search the grounds for hidden eggs. Guests must RSVP by calling 360-330-2010 or by emailing info@cookshillmanor.com
