Portland Man Chosen to Lead Chehalis First Christian

Marcus Read has been selected as the new senior pastor at Chehalis First Christian Church. He replaces interim minister Bryan Wilhite, who served the church for 19 months.

Read was approved as the new senior pastor in a vote of the congregation last weekend. After being extended an invitation, Read and his wife, Alissa, accepted the call the serve. He will begin his ministry here Monday.

For the past 2½ years, Read has served as associate pastor at Kern Park Christian Church in Portland. He holds a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministries from Northwest Christian University, and will complete his master of divinity degree later this year at Emmanuel Christian Seminary.

The Reads have been married 16 years. They have three children, Megan, Rebecca and Jeremiah.

 

Churches Honored for Feeding the Poor

Church Women United will give Human Rights Awards to eight area ministries at the CWU’s annual Human Rights Award celebration at 1 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Centralia.

Honorees will be Gather Church, Centralia Methodist, Grace Foursquare Church, Lewis County Gospel Mission, St. John’s Lutheran, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Timothy’s Episcopal and a mobile food ministry team in recognition of work done in feeding the poor.

Calvary Chapel Relocates Services

Calvary Chapel is currently holding services at Harrison Square Presbyterian Church, 1227 Harrison Ave., Centralia. Services are at 9 a.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Calvary is undergoing a remodel of its church at 2502 Seward Ave., Centralia. It is expected services will be at Harrison Square for about a year.

Methodist Pastor to Start New Sermon Series

Pastor Tom Peterson is beginning a new sermon series, “Basic Characteristics of the Christian Life,” at Centralia United Methodist Church Sunday.

Worship is at 11 a.m. following the 9:30 a.m. classes for all ages.

The church is planning a Spring Rummage Sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7. The event is sponsored by United Methodist Women. Money raised will help with women’s ministries.
