Evergreen Playhouse to Hold Auditions

Evergreen Playhouse auditions for Neil Simon's "45 Seconds from Broadway" are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13, 14 and 15.

A cast of six adult men and six adult women, at least three or four extras and a crew will be needed.

The scheduled opening is Oct. 5 and will run through Oct. 21.

A preaudition readthrough of "45 Seconds from Broadway" will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Following are character descriptions:

• Mickey Fox, age 35-70, an in-your-face comic Jackie Mason/Don Rickles type comic, is surrounded by an eclectic cast of characters, including

• Bernie and Zelda, age 45-70, the dining spot's proprietor and his wife, transplants from central Europe.

• Rayleen and Charles, age 35-70, an upscale society dame and her nearly mute husband, these two bizarre patrons walk away with some of the show's biggest laughs and warmest moments.



• Andrew, a British impresario, age 21-70, and theater producer.

• Megan, age 21-29, an aspiring Broadway actress and ingénue.

• Solomon, age 21-70, a South African playwright.

• Mickey’s brother, age 35-70, desperate for Mickey’s help.

• Bessie, age 21-70, an African-American female Broadway musical actress.

... and two of the best female roles to come along in a long time.

• Arlene and Cindy, age 21-70, two gossipy, babbling theatergoers.They shout into cellular phones, invest in shows without reading them, quote theater reviews verbatim, and pontificate endlessly about shows they didn't understand.
