Lewis County PUD Considers Rate Increases; 2018 Budget Shows $1.4M Deficit

Posted

The commissioners of the Lewis County Public Utility District approved its 2018 budget during a public meeting in Morton on Tuesday.

The $73.8 million budget includes a $1.4 million deficit. To bridge the gap, commissioners approved a rate proceeding schedule, according to a press release. The release didn’t provide information on the specific increases, though The Chronicle has now requested that information.

The rates were raised by an average of 8.4 percent in 2017.

Two public hearings on the proposed rate increase have been scheduled for January. The first will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the PUD’s Morton office, 240 Seventh St. The second hearing will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Chehalis office, 321 NW Pacific Ave.

The public is encouraged to attend the meetings.
