Ethan Siegel will be giving a free lecture on “Fate of the Universe” at noon Friday in the Walton Science Center, Room 121.

Siegel, a Toledo resident, writes a popular science blog, “Starts with a Bang,” and is a regular contributor to Forbes. He is the author of “Beyond the Galaxy: How Humanity Looked Beyond our Milky Way and Discovered the Entire Universe.” He teaches physics and astronomy at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.

Siegel will discuss the origins of the universe and take listeners far into the future.

“The Earth has been around for 4.5 billion years, and the universe has been around more than three times that,” Siegel said. “Although we emerged from a hot, dense, uniform state to arrive at the planets, stars and galaxies found today, none of this will stick around forever.”

A reception will follow the lecture. Refreshments will be provided.

Siegel’s presentation is part of the Rising Tide Science Seminar at Centralia College, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Centralia College Foundation.
