OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State officials have eased a burn ban in western Washington, allowing campfires in certain settings starting Friday.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources said in a news release that recent rains and cooler temperatures across western Washington prompted the move, which affects areas west of the Cascade Mountains.
The announcement specifically allows for campfires in approved fire pits in campgrounds on western Washington DNR-protected lands.
The campfire ban continues on DNR-protected lands across eastern Washington. The statewide ban on other outdoor burning, such as debris burning, also continues.
Individual jurisdictions may have their own continued campfire bans.
State officials say people should check local restrictions, campground signs or with campground hosts before starting a campfire.
