A 14-year-old Olympia boy was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly leading deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on a chase from south of Winlock to Toutle.

At 3:20 a.m. Friday, a deputy reported observing a 2013 Ford F-150 truck driving erratically near milepost 60 of southbound Interstate 5 in Lewis County.

The deputy initially thought the driver might be intoxicated. After the truck allegedly came within 6 inches of a semi truck in the next lane, deputies activated their lights at about milepost 57 to attempt to stop the truck.

The truck failed to stop, but deputies continued to follow. Eventually, deputies terminated their active pursuit but continued to follow the truck, which was traveling at normal freeway speeds.

The truck eventually stopped after high-centering on a log in the 400 block of Burma Road in Toutle.

The driver was discovered to be a 14-year-old from Olympia. The boy told deputies he took his father’s truck because he wanted to run away.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and was booked into Lewis County Juvenile Detention.
