Winlock Woman Accused of Vehicular Assault After Crash Allegedly Involving Marijuana

A Winlock woman was arrested after police say she drove a vehicle after drinking and smoking pot, causing a crash that required an injured man to be airlifted.

Tedra R. Dail, 23, was charged with a count of vehicular assault. She’s being held on $5,000 bail.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Friday, deputies went to Military Road near Winlock on a report of a single-vehicle crash.

There, they found a vehicle flipped over onto its roof and parts of the wheel assembly sheared off. Authorities say they believe Dail to be the driver, and she admitted to having consumed alcohol and marijuana a few hours before the crash.

A man, who deputies believe was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Chief Bruce Kimsey with the sheriff’s office said he was found about 20 feet from the vehicle in some brush. Court documents said a branch had impaled the man’s arm.

He was airlifted to a hospital in Vancouver, said Kimsey.

Dail was transported to a hospital in Longview, and a warrant was obtained to retrieve a blood sample.

Dail, said defense attorney Rachael Tiller, argues that she wasn’t the driver of the vehicle. Dail additionally said, according to Tiller, she has bruises on her shoulder from the seat belt that would indicate she was in a passenger seat.

Deputy Prosecutor Karin Phomma argued for $10,000 bail, saying that the allegations represent a threat to community safety.

Tiller asked for $5,000, highlighting her lack of criminal history.

Dail has an arraignment hearing set for Thursday.
