Winlock Man Accused of Assault With Metal Knuckles Sentenced to Year in Prison

A man accused in a 2014 assault with metal knuckles pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year in prison this week.

Cody Lee Salzer, 26, of Winlock, was arrested March 27 on a warrant for failing to appear to a preliminary hearing for the assault charge. He was arrested along with two other people with warrants in a house with false walls and hiding places, according to the Toledo Police Department.

Salzer made his first appearance on the second-degree assault charge in Lewis County Superior Court March 28, when he was granted $15,000 bail.

Salzer pleaded guilty to second-degree assault with substantial bodily harm on April 22 and was sentenced on Wednesday to 12 months and one day in prison. He was given credit for 32 days served.

According to court documents, in July 2014 in Winlock Salzer repeatedly struck another man in the face while wearing black metal knuckles.

The victim reportedly woke up the next day with eight to nine facial fractures, including a broken jaw, nose, cheek bone, skull, an orbital fracture and broken teeth. He has since received facial reconstructive surgery.

Salzer has previous convictions for second-degree assault and second-degree burglary.
