A Mineral volunteer firefighter was charged in Pierce County Superior Court this spring for allegedly stealing upwards of $3,000 in gas money from the small fire district over two years.

Brady James Mounce, 23, was charged on May 19 with one count of second-degree theft.

According to court documents, Mounce used a fuel card owned by Lewis County Fire District 9 to purchase a total of $3,307.62 in fuel for his personal vehicle.

Mounce was issued the card for official use only in his capacity as a volunteer firefighter at the district.

According to court documents, he drove to Pierce County to fill his personal vehicles with gas using the district’s fuel card for approximately two years.

When he was confronted with the theft, Mounce reportedly admitted to using the card for personal vehicles on several occasions, according to court documents.

Mounce’s trial is currently scheduled to begin Aug. 16.
