Joseph A. Schwartz and Katharina Mage McKenna were declared dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 4:53 p.m. Friday 2 miles west of Chehalis.

Schwartz was driving a blue 1989 Mazda pickup truck east near mile marker 49 when he lost control of the vehicle, which slid across the centerline and was struck on the passenger side by a westbound 2014 Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Jeep, Glennon G. Stinson, 69, of Rochester, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with unspecified injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Schwartz and his passenger, McKenna, were both wearing seat belts. Both vehicles were totaled.

The cause is still under investigation, according to the State Patrol.

There will be no charges.

The crash shut down state Route 6 for several hours while the State Patrol investigated the crash.
