Vehicle and Boat Licensing No Longer Available in Grand Mound

South Thurston County residents looking to license their land or aquatic transportation will have to travel a bit farther now in order to do so.

The recent death of the owner of Grand Mound Licensing has prompted the business to cease its licensing operations, which leaves Olympia as the nearest location for taking care of licensing paperwork in person.

According to Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall, work is already in progress to create a replacement location in South Thurston County, but there is no timetable available for when the task will be accomplished. In Hall’s words from a press release, “We aim to restore services as quickly as possible, and have already taken steps to begin the open and competitive application process.”

Hall added, “These are difficult and unfortunate circumstance. We hope to award the contract to a local business, and provide high quality licensing services to south Thurston County community members. I strongly encourage anyone interested to apply.”

Information about the application process will be available on Monday, online at www.thurstonauditor.org.

Until a new location is up and running, South Thurston County residents will have to travel to Olympia or Hawks Prairie in order to receive their tabs and registration paperwork in person.

In Olympia, licensing matters can be taken care of at the Thurston County Auditor’s Office, located at 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

In Hawks Prairie, licensing needs can be handled at Hawks Prairie Auto Licensing, located at 1401 Marvin Road NE, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Vehicle licensing is also available online at http://www.dol.wa.gov/.
