An Onalaska man accused of breaking into a trailer with a pick-ax and threatening two people with a gun made his first appearance on one gross misdemeanor and three felony charges Monday afternoon in Lewis County Superior Court.

Ronald J. Roy, 53, of Onalaska, was arrested Friday night and charged Monday with residential burglary, harassment - threat to kill, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and fourth-degree assault.

Superior Court Judge James Lawler imposed $50,000 bail, in accordance with a request from the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and court documents, deputies responded early Friday morning to a report of burglary and harassment in the 100 block of Cattle Drive in Onalaska. The victims, identified as a 42-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both of Onalaska, reported they arrived home to find windows broken and a pick-ax stuck in the door of the woman’s trailer and said clothing had been removed and thrown on a fire pit.

The female victim told deputies she owned the trailer but lived on property owned by Roy. Roy reportedly also lives on the property.

“They then found the suspect holding a firearm, who made threats to kill the two victims,” Captain Curt Spahn, of the Sheriff’s Office, reported.

She also told deputies Roy began pushing her and telling her to get off the property.

Deputies arrived and learned Roy was not legally allowed to have a gun due to a previous felony conviction, but found a 20-gauge shotgun among his possessions.

Roy’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday.
