An elderly Chehalis couple were injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday afternoon following a crash on Jackson Highway, according to Lewis County Fire District 5.

At 1:20 p.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a report of a rollover accident in the 3100 block of Jackson Highway. 

They arrived to find an elderly couple in a vehicle that was lodged against a utility pole. 

The 78-year-old man driving the 1999 Dodge Ram truck was wearing a seat belt, but suffered severe blunt-force trauma to his chest, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. His 76-year-old female passenger had a fractured neck and other injuries. The woman said her husband might have fallen asleep at the wheel, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Both patients were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, then transferred to Harborview. Their medical status is unknown. The accident is under investigation.
