Two Injured in I-5 Log Truck Crash That Halted Northbound Travel

Posted

Two people were injured during a collision involving a semi truck hauling logs on Interstate 5 in Centralia Monday afternoon that closed down all northbound traffic at milepost 82 near Harrison Avenue.

Both injured parties were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, including the truck’s driver — a 49-year-old McCleary man.

According to Washington State Patrol, at 2:35 p.m., a freightliner hauling logs was traveling on southbound I-5 in the right lane, and made a quick lane change to the left. The lane change caused the truck to roll over and spill its load of logs over the median.

Four vehicles traveling northbound were struck by logs, with one of the drivers — a 33-year-old Tacoma woman — sustaining injuries. The vehicles all sustained damage.

State patrol attribute speeds too high for the conditions as the cause of the crash, and charges are pending against the truck’s driver.

Northbound lanes in the area were closed down until the scene could be cleared, and southbound travel was restricted to one lane.
