Brenda Wing, the Vader woman accused in the death of 3-year-old Jasper Henderling-Warner made an appearance in Lewis County Superior Court Thursday afternoon, where her omnibus hearing to review the status of her case was pushed back to May 2.

Wing’s legal challenges have been ongoing since 2014, when she was initially charged in the homicide by abuse case along with her husband Danny Wing.

Both pleaded guilty and were sentenced to more than 30 years in prison each, but an erroneous offender score calculation resulted in a state court of appeals ruling granting both Wings the option to withdraw their guilty pleas, essentially starting the entire case back to square one.

Danny Wing opted not to withdraw his guilty plea in September 2018, and is scheduled to be resentenced on May 28.

Brenda Wing, meanwhile, did opt to withdraw her guilty plea. Her attorney, Shane O’Rourke said in a previous interview that her defense will analyze her alleged level of involvement in Henderling-Warner’s death.

Beyond her scheduled May 2 omnibus hearing, Brenda Wing has a trial confirmation hearing currently set for July 18 and a jury trial to begin July 22.

According to court documents and their own statements, Danny and Brenda Wing had taken in Henderling-Warner along with their own children more than two months before he died in October 2014.

An autopsy found that he had abuse-related injuries that were weeks to months old, and concluded that his primary cause of death was “chronic battered child syndrome,” according to court documents.
