A Toledo woman is being held on $75,000 bail after Child Protective Services tipped off law-enforcement to possible abuse.

Finola B. Erickson, 32, of Toledo, was charged Monday in Lewis County Superior Court with one count of third-degree assault of a child.

The charge accuses Erickson of using a “weapon or other instrument or thing likely to produce bodily harm … accompanied by substantial pain” to assault a 9-year-old child, according to court documents.

Lewis County deputy prosecutor Melissa Bohm asked for $100,000 bail, noting that at the time of her arrest, Erickson had an outstanding warrant for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, issued by the Chehalis Police Department.

“My understanding is that is the same alleged victim,” Bohm said.

Erickson’s attorney for her first appearance, Shane O’Rourke, argued that her bail should be $10,000 unsecured, calling the $100,000 request “excessive” for a third-degree assault case.

Superior Court Judge James Lawler imposed $75,000 bail. Erickson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

Deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from Child Protective Services responded at 2 p.m. Saturday to the 100 block of Middle Crest Drive in Toledo to follow up on a referral from CPS.

They met with a 9-year-old boy who told them Erickson, his mother, assaulted him. Another child allegedly confirmed the report, according to court documents.

The boy had large bruises on his mid-back and upper-left arm, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The boy reported that he received the injuries when his mother threw him against appliances and walls in the small travel trailer where they were living, according to court documents.

Erickson was arrested and booked on suspicion of third-degree assault of a child that day.
