Two suspects connected to a cargo trailer full of stolen property and allegations of robbery involving threats to break a victim’s fingers if he didn’t give up a vehicle have pleaded guilty to numerous felonies.

A third suspect is still awaiting trial.

Carly R. Holmes, 38, of Napavine, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to four counts of second-degree trafficking in stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree theft and second-degree burglary. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 27.

David G. Dehaven, 32, of Chehalis, pleaded guilty March 28 to theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of trafficking in stolen property and second-degree burglary. His sentencing is also scheduled for April 27. He is being screened for a sentence under the Drug Offender Sentencing Alternative, which involves treatment in lieu of prison time as long as the defendant meets the conditions of the program.

Both were originally charged with first-degree robbery, but pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

A third suspect, Brittany M. Boone, 27, of Chehalis, was also charged as a co-defendant in the first-degree robbery case. Her case is still scheduled to go to trial.

According to court documents, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office first began investigating the pair on Dec. 30 when they received a report from of a vehicle theft on Hawkins Road in Winlock. A man reported he was in a dispute with Dehaven and Holmes, and believed they stole property from his garage.

The pair allegedly took the man’s car and returned it the following day damaged and covered in mud. The victim later told police Holmes, Dehaven and Boone forced him to sign over the title to the car.

“(The victim) refused to sign the paperwork and Holmes and Dehaven began to yell at him that if he didn’t sign the paperwork they would break his fingers with a hammer because that is what they do in Lewis County,” according to court documents.

The victim reported he relented when he was threatened with a gun.

Holmes was arrested and charged Jan. 2 with theft of a motor vehicle and third-degree theft and granted bail. Dehaven was sent a summons and failed to appear to a Jan. 16 hearing.

Warrants were issued for both, who were arrested again in late January. Holmes was later charged with possession of stolen property after her vehicle was found containing items stolen from another victim.

In February, deputies executed a search warrant on Dehaven and Holmes’ residence in Chehalis and recovered a 22-foot cargo trailer filled with stolen items from burglaries ranging from Chehalis to Winlock, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

“The hard work of our deputies will result in several victims being able to have their stolen property returned to them,” Sheriff Rob Snaza said in a statement at the time. “Property crimes are devastating on those that work hard and provide for their families. We will continue to pursue those who break the law and those that choose to victimize the citizens of this great county.”
