The Tenino Police Department announced this week how it intends to spend a $5,500 grant provided by the Nisqually Indian Tribe’s Charitable Funds Program.

The department submitted a request to the tribe for a grant for equipment including a Taser, a bullet-proof vest and a computer.

“We are very humbled and appreciative of the great community support the Nisqually Indian Tribe was able to provide our department as well as the number of other award recipients,” according to a statement from Chief Donald Moody. “It is through charitable contributions such as these we can continue to provide the highest levels of police services to our community.”

Moody said relationships with community partners are important to the success of the police department.

“As a small community with a department of limited resources, any support we receive monetarily or other supporting functions just creates a better quality of life for our citizens while providing a safer work environment for our officers,” he said.
