State Fire Marshal Urges Halloween Safety

Posted

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is encouraging Halloween revelers to have a spooky good time safely this Oct. 31.

Recommendations from the state office include purchasing or making fire-resistant costumes, avoid costumes with billowing fabric to avoid tripping or fire hazards, giving trick-or-treaters glow sticks or flashlights, and keep decorations such as corn stalks away from open flames.

“If possible, use battery-operated lights instead of candles for pumpkins. If you choose to use candle decorations, keep them attended at all times and extinguish them if you leave the room,” a news release from the office states.
