State Department of Natural Resources Sends Fire Assistance to California

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is sending more than 100 firefighters and 20 fire engines to help battle the raging wildfires in California.

A total of 106 firefighters will travel to Chico in Northern California to work on the Camp Fire, which has burned more than 115,000 acres as of Monday afternoon, about the size of San Jose. More than 7,000 buildings have been scorched, including metal structures that have melted under the extreme heat.

Fire engines from the Department of Natural Resources will join 15 engines from local fire districts across the state that have already joined the fire lines in California.

The most recent death count of 29 ties the Griffith Park Fire of 1933 for the deadliest in state history. The fire is expected to continue spreading via high temperatures and gusty winds and is not expected to be contained until the end of the month.
