Five people have been arrested and another has charges referred in two separate Lewis County burglaries within 24 hours of one another.

The burglaries were over the span of Tuesday to Wednesday morning. Other than the short span of time between the burglaries, authorities haven’t drawn any connections between the two incidents.

According to a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a house in the 600 block of state Route 506 in Toledo at 11:09 a.m. Tuesday.

Court documents delve into more detail, saying a reporting party found a gate on their property had been cut, allowing someone to gain access to a barn.

Sheriff Rob Snaza and a deputy approached the barn area, and found a truck with a woman sleeping in it. They then found a man, identified as Jason C. Patterson, 44, of Castle Rock in the immediate area. Patterson was charged with second-degree theft and second-degree burglary.

Patterson appeared in Lewis County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon, and was placed on a $10,000 unsecured bond, meaning he will be released as long as he shows up to future hearings.

The woman was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for the same pair of charges. The Chronicle does not name suspects until they have been charged.

The second burglary occurred at around 7:19 a.m. Wednesday.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies went to the 2400 block of Seminary Hill Road in Centralia to an interrupted residential burglary. The victim provided a description of two fleeing vehicles and tried to follow them.

A Centralia police officer found one of the vehicles in the Logan district and detained the driver.

The second vehicle, a van, was found but the occupants appeared to have fled. K-9 units from the sheriff’s office and Chehalis police department were deployed in the area, and two of the people from the van were arrested while one remains at large.

Arrested were: Eric M. McCarthy, 48, of Seattle; Terry L. Hadley, 53, of Chehalis; and Austin N. Humphrey, 23, of Napavine. They were booked on suspicion of residential burglary.

Erik G. Spicer, 32, of Napavine turned himself in to authorities at around 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.

“The work by this office, and our law enforcement agency partners, have ensured the individuals involved will be held responsible for their crimes. These incidents (affect) all of us in our community, and the actions of these criminals will not be tolerated,” said Snaza in a press release.
