$200 Sunglasses, Cellphone Stolen in Vehicle Prowl

• At 9:23 a.m. on Tuesday, police received a report of a vehicle prowl in the 3000 block of Southwest Newaukum Avenue in Chehalis. A cellphone and $200 Coach sunglasses were reported stolen. 

Counterfeit Cash Reported in Chehalis

• At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, police received a report of a person using counterfeit money in the 1000 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. No arrests were made.

Possible Burglary Reported

• At 10:26 p.m. on Tuesday, police received a report of two people taking items from a building in the 7000 block of South Market Boulevard. No arrests were made. 

Centralia Police Department

Broken Window Reported

• At 9:49 a.m. on Tuesday, police received a report that a window was broken at a business in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue. 

Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Burglary

• Alisha A. Holmes, 25, of Centralia, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary after allegedly breaking a vehicle’s window at a business she had previously been trespassed from.

Juveniles Arrested on Suspicion of Shoplifting

• At 5:18 p.m. on Tuesday, several juveniles were arrested and released on suspicion of third-degree theft after allegedly shoplifting from a business in the 600 block of South Tower Avenue. 

Lewis County Sheriff’s Office

Assault Leads to Arrest

• At about 3:08 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to the 900 block of State Route 7 in Morton in reference to an assault that had just occurred. A 52 year old female was transported to Morton General with obvious facial trauma. Witnesses reported that Brian D. Veach, 33, of Morton, fled into a large wooded area east of the residence. 

After speaking with the victim, deputies learned the two were arguing when Veach allegedly got on the victim and began punching her in the face “over and over” again, also striking her with an unknown object. The victim was believed to have multiple fractures on her face. Later in the day, the suspect’s father called to say Veach had returned home. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Theft of Antique Firearms

• The sheriff’s office received a report of an unknown person who stole eight antique firearms, including a shotgun, revolver and rifle, sometime between November 2013 and June 2015. The firearms were stored in an older safe in a barn in the 200 block of Evans Road in Toledo. The total value of the guns is estimated at $5,375. The victim was an 82-year-old man from Toledo. 

Collision with Injury

On Monday at 12:12 p.m. at the 800 block of Middle Fork Road in Onalaska, an 88-year-old Chehalis man driving a 2005 dodge pick up collided with a power pole. The driver received cuts to his hand and other injuries were unknown. He was wearing a seat belt. The man was driving east on Middle Fork Road when he drove off the roadway and into a power pole, damaging the pole and the homeowner’s electrical line for a water pump. He was transported to Providence Centralia’s emergency room. 

Golf Cart Reported Stolen

• A late 1980s or early 1990s Yamaha gas-powered golf cart was reported stolen between Friday and Saturday at the Cascade Peaks campground in the 11000 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Randle. Gas cans and plumbing tools were also reported stolen. 

Woman Arrested for DUI

• Veronica L. Valderrama, 52, of Winlock, was arrested at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license. Lewis County sheriff’s deputies arrested Valderrama after reporting to a 911 hangup call reporting a domestic dispute.

Bicycle, Welder Stolen in Burglary

• Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a burglary the previous night in the 100 block of Goodrich Road in Centralia. A 33-year-old Centralia man told deputies he found his barn door pried open, and a welder and a Fetish Cycles bicycle had been stolen. 

Dog Bites Service Animal, Owner

• At 8:15 on Wednesday, deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vicious dog in the 100 block of Front Street in Mineral in the parking lot of the Headquarters Tavern. A 44-year-old Mineral man reported he was leaving the bar with his service dog, a 3-year-old malamute, when another dog, described as a brown pit bull mix, attacked his dog. The man tried to separate the dogs, and was bitten on the thumb, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies located the pit bull mix and its owner, and issued the owner an infraction because his dog was loose and on another person’s property. The malamute had puncture wounds on one leg and its owner had a bite wound on his thumb. 

Brush Fires

• At 7:29 a.m. on Tuesday, a brush fire was reported near the intersection of Riverside Road in Elzina Street in Chehalis.

• At 11:16 a.m. on Tuesday, a brush fire was reported near the intersection of Tennessee and Nelson roads in Winlock.

• At 1:38 p.m. on Tuesday, a brush fire was reported in the 100 block of West High Street in Centralia.

• At 2:38 p.m. Wednesday, a brush fire was reported in the 100 block of Jones Road in Winlock.
