Sheriff’s Office: Information Sought After Trees Intentionally Cut to Fall on Power Lines

Posted

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information on people suspected of intentionally falling trees onto power lines and causing a fire over the weekend.

Deputies responded to a call at mile marker 7 on Bunker Creek Road at 1:39 a.m. Sunday after a tree had fallen on the power lines, causing outages for most of the residents on the road. Lewis County PUD was called to remove the tree and repair the lines. Responders found fresh sawdust and chain saw marks at the base of the tree indicating it had been intentionally cut down.

Someone also cut down a tree in the 400 block of Manners Road in Chehalis. When it fell, it caused the power lines to catch on fire. Once the responders made the lines safe and the fire was put out, inspectors saw that whoever cut it down intended it to fall onto the powerlines.

Anyone with information is urged to call call Crimestoppers at (800) 748-6422.
