Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people Thursday on suspicion of attempting to elude arrest.

At 7:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a possible trespasser in the 1200 block of Long Road in Centralia. When they arrived, they contacted a man in a vehicle who appeared to be intoxicated.

While deputies were talking to the suspect, he allegedly put his car in reverse and drove away from deputies.

The driver continued to attempt to elude deputies until his vehicle veered off the road and hit an apple tree in someone’s garden, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrested the driver, Galen R. Whitmire, 24, of Chehalis, on suspicion of felony eluding and referred him to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of driving under the influence.

At 9:32 p.m. that day, police Arrested Brian K. Elliott, 45, of Galvin, on suspicion of felony eluding and referred him to prosecutors on suspicion of DUI. A deputy reportedly saw Elliott’s vehicle driving in the area of River Heights Road and Galvin Road over the speed limit. The deputy reportedly tried to stop Elliott, who didn’t pull over. Near the intersection of Joppish Road and Harriman Street, Elliott allegedly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies caught up with him and took him into custody.

Elliott was not charged in Lewis County Superior Court Friday pending further information.
