Sex Offender Registers as Transient in Thurston County

A level 1 sex offender has recently registered as a transient in Thurston County, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. 

David W. Oakes, 57, is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2015 conviction in Thurston County Superior Court of one count of possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and two counts of second-degree viewing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. 

He was sentenced to 60 months confinement. 

Oakes, at 53, was accused of uploading child pornography to a social media site and viewing such pornography on the internet, according to the sheriff’s office.

Oakes is described as a white male standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 240 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
