A semi crash on I-5 at Maytown Monday left lumber piled across multiple lanes.
A crash involving five semi trucks blocked north- and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at Maytown early Monday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol and the Washington State Department of Transportation, blocking the freeway for more than nine hours.
The crash was reported at 1:11 p.m. Monday at milepost 97 of northbound I-5.
According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the first vehicle, a white 2005 Mitsubishi tanker driven by a 49-year-old Shelton man, was headed north when it slowed for traffic.
A second vehicle, a yellow 1992 Peterbilt truck driven by a 49-year-old Corvallis, Oregon man, was behind the first truck and lost control, crossing all northbound lanes and striking the barrier.
The Peterbilt continued into the southbound lanes, coming to rest along southbound lanes one, two and three.
The third vehicle, a red 2020 Freightliner truck driven by a 49-year-old Temecula, California man, was heading southbound when the Peterbilt crossed the freeway. The Freightliner lost control, hit the Freightliner and then hit the barrier, coming to rest on top of the divider between north and south lanes.
The fourth vehicle, a blue 2015 Volvo truck driven by a 68-year-old Bellingham resident, hit the Freightliner and came to rest in the southbound lanes.
The fifth vehicle, a white 2019 Wabash truck, driven by a 42-year-old Las Vegas man, was also heading south. It left the road to the right to avoid the crash, coming to rest in a ditch.
The driver of the Freightliner was injured and transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. His was the only injury.
Trooper Johnna Batiste reported the injuries were not serious.
The northbound lanes were blocked for nine hours and 16 minutes and the southbound lanes were blocked for 11 hours and 44 minutes.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the incident.
