A fire that started in a motorhome’s refrigeration unit Sunday in Centralia spread and damaged several neighboring buildings, including a shed, garage and house, according to the Riverside Fire Authority.

The fire was reported at 5:45 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue in Centralia. Firefighters responded to find a motorhome on fire, with flames spreading to a garage.

Fire had also spread to a small shed on a neighboring property, and heat damage was reported on a nearby house, including damage to exterior siding.

At one point, the fire ignited a propane tank in the motor home, according to the RFA.

“Because of the destruction of the motorhome, an exact cause will be difficult to be determined,” according to a news release from the RFA. “However, based on reports from the homeowner and witnesses, it appears the fire started from the refrigeration unit that is powered by LPG (liquid petroleum) gas. The home owner had been working on the unit prior to the fire.”

No people or firefighters were injured, but four cats were found dead in the garage after the fire was extinguished, according to the RFA.

In addition to the RFA, firefighters from the Chehalis Fire Department and Lewis County Fire District 6 also responded.
