Police Investigating Burglary At Centralia Church

The Centralia Police Department is investigating a burglary at Centralia Bible Chapel that likely occurred Sunday night or Monday morning, where someone stole sound equipment, miscellaneous items and money.

In an email to The Chronicle, Officer Angie Humphrey said police were reviewing surveillance footage from Umpqua Bank next door for any potential evidence.

According to police, someone forced open the door of the small church in the 200 block of North Pearl Street and exited through a side door.

One of the church’s elders, John Martin, told The Chronicle he was the one who first noted something was wrong, when he spotted the open side door as he was headed down Pearl Street Monday afternoon.

A police call log indicates they were dispatched at 1:40 p.m.

Martin said the suspect or suspects took sound equipment including a mixer box, cables, a guitar and transmitters for wireless microphones. Other items taken included a dehumidifier, vacuum cleaner, printer and copier and other random items. He said they also took some money in cash and checks.

“Unfortunately they didn’t take any Bibles, which is what they really needed,” said Martin.

Officer Doug Lowrey said in an email that the total value of items taken was about $400.
