A Castle Rock woman died and a Kelso man was injured in a Thursday night collision with a tree in Castle Rock.
Shad W. Mathers, 45, was driving eastbound on Spirit Lake Memorial Highway at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree near milepost one at 11:37 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.
Passenger Elisa A. Mason, 47, was killed. Mathers was taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center for treatment. Both were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. No charges have been filed, according to the patrol.
