One person was hurt in a Pierce County collision involving a Mineral man Friday afternoon.

The injured driver, a 41-year-old Bellevue man driving a Yamaha motorcycle, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

According to Washington State Patrol, at just before 2:44 p.m. Friday, a 33-year-old Mineral man was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer northbound on state Route 7 near Rocky Point Park.

The driver began to make a left hand turn into the park, when the motorcyclist attempted to pass the vehicle on the left side. The motorcycle and the Blazer collided, with the motorcycle hitting the front driver’s side of the Blazer. The motorcycle received debilitating damage.

The southbound lanes of SR 7 were closed down for two hours following the collision.

State patrol indicates the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but notes that neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a role.
