One Child, One Adult Killed in Crash Near Packwood

A 10-year-old boy and a 39-year-old London, England woman died in weekend collision near Packwood, which also hospitalized five children and one adult.

The deceased woman was identified by the Washington State Patrol as Jonna R. Rane. The child was identified by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office Monday as Stephen J. Rane, of Bothell.

According to a press release from the Washington state patrol, at 2:01 p.m. Saturday, Jonna Rane was driving a 2017 Ford Escape eastbound on state Route 12, 10 miles east of Packwood. Rane’s vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by a 36-year-old Selah woman and containing five children.

Rane and her 10-year-old passenger were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the press release.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Harborview Medical Center, and the five children, with ages ranging from 4 to 13, were taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital with unspecified injuries.

The state patrol reported that all the occupants of the Chevrolet were wearing seatbelts. It was  unknown at the time the release was issued whether the two deceased subjects were wearing seatbelts. 

The exact cause of the collision is pending investigation, and it is unknown of drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the state patrol.
