A woman was hospitalized after being thrown over the handlebars of her motorcycle while trying to avoid a car on state Route 508 just west of Onalaska.

According to a Washington State Patrol press release, at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday Gene L. Gonzales, 64, of Chehalis was driving a Ford Escape westbound near milepost 3.5 of the highway, when he missed his turn.

Gonzales pulled into a driveway to turn around, and as he backed up, he pulled into the path of a motorcycle driven by Jeanie Gardner, 52, of Onalaska.

Gardner hit the brakes on the motorcycle to avoid the collision, causing them to lock up, and she was thrown over the handlebars and onto the roadway. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be contributing factors to the crash, according to WSP.
