More than 10 crashes were reported in a two-hour span Tuesday afternoon after a sudden and short burst of hail south of Chehalis, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers responded to the first crash at 12:50 p.m. Crashes were reported on both north- and southbound I-5 between mileposts 60 and 78.

“We do believe there was a hailstorm that came through,” said Sgt. Darren Wright. “There was hail on the ground when first units arrived but we don’t know for sure that was the cause.”

No serious injuries were reported. Investigations into the individual collisions are underway.
