A three-vehicle wreck blocked the westbound lanes of state Route 512 in Parkland and left the causing driver with severe injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The wreck happened just before 10 a.m. on westbound SR 512 near the Ainsworth Avenue overpass, State Patrol spokeswoman Brooke Bova said Thursday afternoon.
The causing driver, a 35-year-old Spanaway man, was in the right lane of SR 512 when he rear-ended a parked box truck, which sent his car into the middle lane, where he T-boned another car, Bova said.
Firefighters had to extricate the man from his vehicle; he suffered a collapsed lung, leg injuries and facial lacerations, Bova said. He was taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for treatment.
The other people involved in the crash suffered only minor injuries, Bova said.
Westbound SR 512 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours. Traffic was redirected down Pacific Avenue East (state Route 7) as crews worked to investigate and clear the collision.
