A Lewis County judge slammed a Raymond man with a $150,000 cash bond after the man was charged with punching a woman in the face — an alleged crime that required the man to violate a protection order.

Brandon F. McDonald, 37, was charged Tuesday with residential burglary — domestic violence, second-degree assault and violation of a court order. He has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Sept. 27.

According to a probable cause affidavit, McDonald went to the Pe Ell house of a person who had taken out a protection order against him. He was allegedly drunk, with a case of beer in tow. The person left the house for a bit, and found McDonald was still there when she returned.

The woman grabbed a bat and told him to leave, and McDonald then allegedly struck her in the face. The woman reported the assault to authorities.

During a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Prosecutor Joel DeFazio asked that McDonald be placed on a $100,000 cash bond. DeFazio said McDonald had no prior felony history, but he had been convicted on domestic violence and driving under the influence charges before.

Judge Joely O’Rourke upped the ante, placing McDonald on a $150,000 cash bond, calling the allegations “extremely concerning.” Additionally, O’Rourke said, McDonald has a string of allegations that seem to be growing in severity.
