An Elma man is facing a vehicular assault charge after an alleged drug-related crash left a 3-year-old boy seriously injured.

At 11:50 a.m. on Monday, deputies from the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle crash in the 200 block of Mox Chehalis Road.

While en route, deputies learned that the 21-year-old male driver from Elma had minor injuries, but his 3-year-old passenger was seriously injured.

Both the man and child were first transported to Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma, but the boy was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The driver, who investigators believe was under the influence of drugs during the crash, has been booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault. His name has not yet been released.
