Man Accused of Threatening Girlfriend With a Gun Pleads Guilty

A man accused in October of threatening his girlfriend with a gun — but who denied having either — pleaded guilty last month but has not yet been sentenced.

Rockford H. Lang, 37, pleaded guilty Dec. 27 to unlawful imprisonment, domestic violence, and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

He is scheduled to be back in Lewis County Superior Court Jan. 25 for a hearing to set a sentencing date. According to court documents, the standard sentencing range given his criminal history is three to eight months in jail.

At his first court hearing in the case Oct. 10, when he was charged with harassment, threat to kill, and unlawful imprisonment — both domestic-violence offenses — and two additional counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, he said the whole situation was a “big misunderstanding.”

According to court documents, deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded two days earlier to the 2200 block of state Route 6 after receiving a report of harassment by the alleged victim’s ex-husband, who was not a party to the incident.

Deputies arrived and contacted Lang, who reportedly denied being in a domestic dispute, having a girlfriend or possessing a gun, according to court documents.

Shortly after that, deputies reported hearing a woman, the alleged victim, yelling for help from Lang’s trailer.

Deputies reported finding two .22 caliber rifles in the trailer. Lang is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess guns.
