The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a citizen firearm safety class for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 17 at the Lewis County Law and Justice Center in Chehalis.

“As part of Sheriff Rob Snaza’s ongoing commitment to (be of) service to the community, and in support of responsible firearms ownership and individuals’ Second Amendment rights, this training will provide citizens of Lewis County with an opportunity to learn more about basic firearms safety, marksmanship, and laws regarding the use … of firearms,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The four-hour training session includes a session with a firearms simulator, allowing attendees to experience realistic split-second decision making.

Participants must be 18 years or older, a Lewis County resident and pass a criminal history background check. Class size is limited.

To register, contact special services deputy Justin Kangas at 360-740-1369 or at sheriffsevents@lewiscountywa.gov. The sheriff’s office plans to schedule another class in May or June.
