Leads Prove Sparse in Investigation Into Centralia Road Rage Shooting

The Centralia Police Department is still looking into a road rage incident last week in which a man reportedly fired several shots at a pickup truck, but no concrete leads or suspects have materialized at this point, said an investigator.

Hours after the shooting, Thurston County authorities got in contact with Centralia police, notifying them of an incident in their jurisdiction with striking similarities. However, with nothing more to go on, Sgt. Carl Buster said the two incidents may be nothing more than a coincidence.

At about 1:52 p.m. Sept. 11, a Honda Civic driven by a white male with dark, curly hair reportedly drove past a pickup truck in the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue and fired several rounds at the truck. A male in the truck’s front passenger seat was injured when a bullet fragment lodged in a baseball cap he was wearing.

The man was taken to Centralia Providence Hospital for treatment for an injury described in a police press release as “superficial.”

Thurston County reported an incident in which shots were fired from a car sporting a similar appearance.

“We’re not confident in saying that it’s linked in any way. … We don’t have anything solid other than shots fired from a similar car. It could be the same guy, but then again it might not be,” said Buster.

Police are encouraging any members of the public with information to contact the police department at 360-330-7680. Thus far, a couple of tips have rolled in, said Buster, but they turned out to be dead ends.

Currently, he said, the department isn’t working with any strong leads.

A security camera caught a glimpse of the suspect’s car, and an image was distributed by police. No other persons were observed in the Honda during the shooting, and it was last seen headed northbound on Harrison toward the intersection of Reynolds and Galvin roads, possibly turning west onto Galvin Road.
