One person is in custody after a Centralia detective intercepted more than 15 pounds of methamphetamine being transported to Seattle via Amtrak, authorities say.

Arrested and charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver was Efrain M. Garcia, 32, a California resident. He’s being held in the Lewis County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on Sunday, a detective with the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team received information from a source not named in court documents that Garcia was transporting methamphetamine from Fresno, California to Seattle via Amtrak.

Garcia made a stop at the Centralia train station at approximately 7:41 p.m.

The detective spotted him, and asked if he could look inside the floral-printed bag he was carrying. Garcia allegedly agreed, and the detective found 15 packages — with a combined weight of 15.4 pounds — of meth. Garcia was taken into custody.

During a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court Monday afternoon, Garcia was granted $50,000 bail, in accordance with a request from the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

Judge James Lawler said he was concerned about the amount of drugs in the bag, and the fact that Garcia has no local connections, potentially making him a flight risk if he were to post bail.

He has an arraignment hearing on Thursday.
