He’s a Good Boy: Thurston County K9 Helps Deputy Arrest Would-Be Car Thief

A K9 officer from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is getting some extra praise after he helped his handler nab a suspect who had been trying to steal vehicles in a Lacey parking lot Friday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, K9 Jaxx and his handler responded to a business to look for a disorderly suspect who possibly had a gun. It turned out the suspect had been trying to steal cars in the parking lot, including some that were occupied.

When they arrived and the deputy began looking for the suspect, the suspect ran away, and eventually jumped into the deputy’s vehicle and tried to steal it. But Jaxx was still in the car, and chased the suspect out.

“The suspect ran and the handler was able to catch up to the suspect. The suspect charged Deputy Bagby and tried to fight the deputy even after a Taser deployment. K9 Jaxx was able to be deployed from the vehicle to help his handler,” according to the Facebook post.

Jaxx nabbed the suspect and was called off by his handler, but the suspect began fighting the deputy again, and tried to grab his weapons and equipment.

“K9 Jaxx apprehended the suspect again,” the Sheriff’s Office K9 unit wrote on Facebook. “K9 Jaxx did an outstanding job helping his handler and making this arrest. Nice job Jaxx!”
