Grinch Steals Christmas at Centralia’s Washington Park

Centralia’s Christmas Tree in Washington Park was noticeably dark just a few days before the holiday after vandals cut wires to the lights and stole extension cords, according to a Facebook post from the city.

On Wednesday, the city of Centralia posted on its Facebook page that a person cut wires on the Christmas tree lights, damaged wires running to hanging decorations at the gazebo and stole extension cords.

Someone also vomited on the steps of the gazebo, according to the city’s post. The city parks department has shut off power to the gazebo.

“It’s such a sad commentary that a few individuals lash out at the city — whatever their reasons — and the only ones being hurt are those in the community who enjoy and take pride in our parks,” the Facebook post stated.
