A former Lewis County Fire District 9 volunteer accused of spending thousands of dollars of taxpayer money on fuel for his personal vehicle was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 days of electronic home monitoring.
It was his second set of convictions for thefts from the district.
Brady J. Mounce, 25, of Mineral, pleaded guilty Feb. 28 to one count of second-degree theft in Lewis County Superior Court. He previously was charged in May 2016 with second-degree theft in Pierce County after being accused of using district gas cards over the Pierce/Lewis county line.
He pleaded guilty in February 2016 to two counts of third-degree theft, both misdemeanors, and was sentenced to 364 days with 334 days suspended on one count, and 364 days with 364 days suspended on the second, according to court documents. He was allowed to serve the remaining 30 days on electronic home monitoring.
Because of his lack of felony criminal history, Mounce’s standard sentencing range as set by state law for the Lewis County conviction for second-degree theft, a class C felony, was zero to sixty days in jail. He was sentenced to 30 days in custody, eligible to be served on electronic home monitoring.
Mounce’s father was the fire district’s chief at the time of the thefts, according to court documents.
The Lewis County charges accuse Mounce of spending $1,500 of the fire district’s money for his personal use between 2013 and 2016 at fuel stations within Lewis County.
Late last year, the state Auditor’s Office estimated $20,300 was misappropriated from the district in the past several years.
