Lewis County Fire District 6 crews responded to two unrelated brush fires Thursday afternoon in Adna, according to a news release from the district.

The first fire was reported just before 4 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Hazel Drive west of Chehalis for a report of a brush fire in a subdivision moving towards trees.

Crews arrived to find an approximately 20-foot by 20-foot slow moving brush fire.

“Crews quickly extinguished the vegetation and contacted a neighbor who stated they’d thrown out ashes from their fireplace which caused the ignition of dry vegetation,” the news release states.

At about 4:30 p.m. that day, crews were again dispatched to a brush fire in the 100 block of Crego Hill Road west of Chehalis. This fire was reported to be about 40 square feet.

Lewis County fire districts 5 and 13 also responded.

When crews arrived, the fire had grown to about 100 square feet and crews requested assistance from the state Department of Natural Resources.

The fire was caused by an unattended burn pile that got out of control due to wind.

No structures were threatened in the second fire. No injuries were reported in either fire.
