An Onalaska man is in custody after deputies said the man shot and killed his wife during an argument.

Bruce E. Reed, 67, was booked in the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

According to a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday deputies and fire personnel went to a house in the 200 block of Burchett Road in Onalaska on a report of a shooting.

Deputies say Reed called 911, saying that he shot his wife. At the scene, he allegedly said she “pushed him too far” and she was shot multiple times. Reed said it happened during an argument about finances and remodeling their home.

Deputies located an unresponsive woman outside the residence, and the scene was then processed by detectives. The victim is a 67-year-old woman from Onalaska, and her identity will be confirmed by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.

Reed is scheduled to make his first appearance in Lewis County Superior Court this afternoon on a charge of second-degree murder. The Chronicle will update this story when more information is available.
