A Curtis man was injured and cited for failing to yield when his truck collided with the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad and Museum steam train Saturday evening.

According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the incident was first reported at 6:44 p.m. on state Route 6 at its crossing with Twin Oaks Road.

A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck was headed eastbound on the highway when its driver, identified as Jeremy W. Mullins, 82, of Chehalis, allegedly failed to see the warning lights indicating that the steam train was approaching and crossed the track. The train struck the vehicle’s left front quarter.

The train was full of passengers on a tour.

“The damage to the locomotive is just cosmetic,” said Bill Thompson, president of the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad Association.

The track was not damaged. The train is scheduled to be back online in time for rides on Saturday, Thompson said.

Mullins was injured and transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.
