A Chehalis man is being held on $100,000 bail after his arrest last Friday for first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault after he allegedly kicked in the front door of an apartment looking for a pregnant woman he knew and wound up assaulting a man.

Robert W. Landry, 33, made his first appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Tuesday where prosecutors recommended a bail be set at $100,000 as well as a protection order for the two victims.

Superior Court Judge Joely O’Rourke presided over the hearing and agreed with the prosecutors, setting bail at $100,000 and filing a protection order for the two victims.

Court documents say Chehalis police officers responded to the 300 block of Southwest 3rd Street after receiving a call from the woman at the residence stating someone was in her home before the line went silent.

The man, who is also familiar with Landry, told police that he heard a loud bang at the front door and found that Landry had kicked the door in. The man claims Landry was wielding a large stick and was opening the door of the woman’s bedroom, according to court documents.

The man yelled out to the woman in her room to run as he engaged with Landry and they wrestled around the apartment. The man also told police that at some point in the confrontation Landry hit him with the large stick.

Officers looked at the injury on the man’s leg and said it was consistent with being struck by a stick.

At court, Landry insisted that he suffers from mental health issues and also that he heard someone yelling for help inside the apartment.

O’Rourke scheduled for Landry to have his next hearing at 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.
