A Chehalis man accused of recklessly driving a motorcycle and refusing to stop for police in July has been charged in Lewis County Superior Court.

Samuel Macain Burleson, 26, was charged in September with attempting to elude a pursuing police officer. He was summoned to court and made his first appearance Tuesday out of custody on the charge. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 10.

According to court documents, on July 12, deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person driving a motorcycle recklessly. When deputies caught up to the rider, they found he was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, according to court documents.

The rider, later identified as Burleson, was seen standing on the motorcycle seat, splitting lanes of traffic and traveling the wrong way on a one-way street during the pursuit.

Deputies stopped the pursuit for safety reasons. The motorcycle was eventually located and impounded.

The owners of the property where the motorcycle confirmed the vehicle was left there by Burleson on the night of the pursuit, according to court documents.
