The Centralia City Council welcomed the city’s newest police officer at its Tuesday night meeting.

John Dorff recited the law enforcement code of ethics at the meeting. He has 11 years experience with the Nevada Highway Patrol where he reached the rank of sergeant. After that, he worked in the private sector, and later decided his true calling was law enforcement

Police Chief Carl Nielsen said Dorff brings a wealth of knowledge to the community.

“First and foremost I'm excited to be here serving the people of Centralia,” Dorff said during the meeting.  Dorff and his wife recently relocated to Washington to enjoy year round outdoor activities, Nielsen said.

Dorff said while he was in the private sector he had the opportunity to meet Nielsen. He said if there was ever an opportunity to work for him, he would.

“I’m happy to be here,” he said.
